Understanding Knee Anatomy

knee Anatomy

The knee is a complex joint made up of different structures - bones, tendons, ligaments, and muscles. They all work together to maintain the knee’s normal function and provide stability to the knee during movement.

Common Knee Conditions

Understanding Causes of Knee Pain and Restricted Movement

Many conditions can affect the knee joint and lead to pain, swelling, stiffness, and limited movement. When one or more structures of the knee such as cartilage, ligaments, or tendons—are damaged, the joint may not function properly.

Knee pain is commonly felt around the front of the knee or along the joint line, but it may also radiate up the thigh or down the leg. Some patients experience locking, catching, or instability, where the knee feels like it may “give way.” Swelling and reduced range of motion are also common symptoms.

A history of previous injury, sports trauma, or overuse is often present. Limping or difficulty bearing weight is frequently seen in more advanced or painful conditions.
